DISR with foam and emulsion

(Periods 1995 to 2000 and 2000 to 2003)

DISR construction technique applied to previously cement treated base in Gauteng and crushed stone base in Western Cape.

Treatment options:

1. Gauteng - foamed + emulsified bitumen.

2. Western Cape - foamed bitumen.

Establish appropriate material "strength" criteria resulting in a material classification system.

Determine mechanical properties and structural performance of stabilized construction materials.

HVS tests 409A4 to 412A4, and 415A5 to 418A5 and 425A5

An initial material classification system.

Calibration of an initial set of mechanistic empirical design models for foamed and emulsion treated material.

Site specific bearing capacity estimates.

A comprehensive set of engineering, mechanical and durability properties of specific materials investigated.
